1.5 Million children in Kenya miss school during droughts and extreme heat seasons due to water shortages. This crisis affects 18 Million across the Horn of Africa. Without water for drinking, sanitation, or hygiene—learning is disrupted.

Seliroko is addressing this crisis

Marginalised children are missing school every year because their schools have no water. When there is no water for drinking, sanitation, or hygiene, schools close — and children lose weeks of learning. Climate change is making droughts longer and more frequent, pushing more children out of classrooms. Girls are hit the hardest with a 10% lower return rate.

Seliroko is addressing this by mobilising water and providing it to schools in marginalised communities, keeping children in school during droughts. Alongside water access, we teach young people how to conserve and protect their water sources and environment.

Water for Education

We ensure schools have reliable water, so children can stay in school for drinking, sanitation, and hygiene — even during droughts.

Climate Learning

We equip young people with practical knowledge to protect their water sources and environment — through hands-on sessions.

Local Ownership

We train school management committees and local communities to sustain water systems for lasting impact.

Our Impact

Measurable outcomes from our work keeping children in school across climate-vulnerable communities.

5,000+

Children who have remained in school thanks to improved access to water and climate education.

120

Schools served with clean water infrastructure across three counties/regions.

35

Youth groups, and community partners actively engaged in our programmes.

How We Work

Our approach is simple: provide water so children stay in school, then teach them to protect their water sources and environment for the long term.

Community-Centered

We work with local communities and school leaders to identify schools most affected by water shortages and co-design solutions that reflect local needs.

Practical Learning

Young people gain skills through hands-on activities and real projects — from understanding water systems to conserving local water sources.

Youth-Led Action

We support young people to lead water conservation and environmental initiatives that create visible benefits for their schools and communities.

Join us in keeping children in school by providing water to climate-vulnerable communities across Kenya.
